William Morris collection is right on trend

William Morris collection is right on trend as Victorian fashion extends from homes and takes root in the nation’s gardens

The launch of the William Morris collection by Woodlodge, the UK’s leading supplier of garden pots, has introduced Victorian chic and timeless style to a new range of planters, on sale at garden centres across the UK.

Introducing the William Morris collection – timeless style

Inspired by British textile designer William Morris (1834-1896), containers in the collection feature his iconic artwork – from Kelmscott swans, often found on tiles adorning Victorian fireplaces, to Willow Bough floral designs. They are as sought-after on wallpapers and curtains in modern times as they were on textiles in their Victorian heyday.

The new stylish collection of ceramics fit seamlessly into Woodlodge’s portfolio of high-quality planters for UK gardens. The company, based at Tetbury in Gloucestershire, is already a market leader in garden pots, boasting an extensive range of heritage, glazed, rustic and terracotta containers that blend in elegantly whether they’re sited at a country manor or a small garden in the heart of a city. The William Morris collection beautifully complements Woodlodge’s existing line-up of traditional containers.

Be inspired by the William Morris legacy

The Victorian fashions that shaped interiors of British homes are now set to take root in the nation’s gardens. The journey started in 1861, when William Morris founded a decorative arts firm with other leading designers. Its tapestries, textiles, wallpaper, fabrics, furniture and stained-glass windows became fiercely sought-after and had a profound influence on interior decoration.

Some of the pots in Woodlodge’s new range feature Kelmscott Manor designs, such as Morris’s famous swan design, which remain the height of fashion to this day. Kelmscott Manor was Morris’s rural Oxfordshire retreat in the 1870s and much of the inspiration for his textiles and artwork came from the property’s architecture, craftsmanship and gardens – renowned for their roses and orchards. The celebrated designer’s timeless creations have been proudly incorporated onto Woodlodge’s new collection of elegant planters.

Help to support the arts

As well as honouring the creations of William Morris, sales of planters in the collection will help to preserve the design icon’s legacy for future generations. Every planter sold will raise funds for the William Morris Gallery in London. The Grade II*-listed Georgian house, set in Lloyd Park in Walthamstow, was Morris’s family home from 1848 to 1856.

Built in the 1740s, it’s the only public gallery devoted to William Morris and reopened in 2012 following a major redevelopment. Funds raised from the sales of Woodlodge’s William Morris planters will support exhibitions, events and educational projects, helping to bring the gallery’s work to a wider audience.

The William Morris collection has a recommended retail price ranging from £7.99 to £34.99, dependant on planter size, and is available now at all good garden centres.
